7/11/10 - as the weekend draws ever closer, we want to stress a few things:
first of all, this party is BYOB!!! that means bring your own beverages. there will be no alcohol sales on the property. and there are no close beer stores - you have been warned. second: we want to mention that this is private land and judy’s house - you will be part of our family from august 13-15 and we are extremely happy to have you all!!! while we will have volunteers to help, we would like you all to please help us keep an eye on the property, the kids and all your fellow festival-goers to make sure everyone has the best time possible.
be sure to check our list of what to bring? located below just above the lineup list. oh, who am i kidding, you only read the updates, so here - i’ll list them: water * libations (if that’s your thing) * food * camping equipment * sun gear * rain gear * shade (we will provide some) * good attitude * hat * closed-toed shoes * instrument
So we’ve noticed that we have described most of the bands in the updates below. the only ones that have not had a description are the ones who have been with us from the start of this crazy idea...so here goes:
The joe west situation - the man needs no introduction in this town. he is one of the best songwriters in the west. you know him, you’ve seen him and you love him. he was the inspiration for our festival a year ago, his songs; the inspiration for many of our campfire sing-alongs, and his shows; the inspiration for most of our late nights in santa fe. we are thrilled to have him back as our headliner for saturday night and can’t wait to see what he has in store for us this year. nothin’ better for us than joe in rowe.
Soul kitchen (featuring hillary smith and chris dracup) - i would like to list all of the awards that these two have collected in the albuquerque/new mexico music scene, but our low-budget website may not be able to support all of them. let’s just say that hillary is the best vocalist around and chris is the best musician. with an equally solid rhythm section they are the rockin’-est blues band in new mexico and will be doing 2hrs for us on sunday!!! it won’t feel like enough.
round mountain - returning to judy’s property for the third time at this year’s music under the mesa 2 (they did a house concert there in ’09) will be brothers char and robby rothschild also known as round mountain. they are a full band made up of only two members playing some of the most beautiful and soul reaching music from all around the globe. what’s better than seeing char play accordion and trumpet at the same time?!?! they will be playing an afternoon set for us on saturday - guaranteed to be a highlight of the weekend and certainly the most anticipated set for the munchkins. check out RM on the plaza this wednesday July 14.
http://www.roundmountainmusic.com/
family coal - and what a beautiful family it is. ma coal, pa coal, pete coal, lori coal, sara coal, eric coal, and john coal - the 7 piece bluegrass/americana experience from madrid will be joining us again this year and providing the soundtrack for our sunday morning brunch. they always say people from madrid are a little strange...if that’s true, then why do they fit in so well here in rowe? ...wait.
the fab faux - new mexico’s beatles experience, the fab faux, will be returning to us this year kicking off the festivities friday night. with mesa baja road’s own bob curtis laying down the paul bass lines and the hauntingly accurate three part harmonies of bob, evelyn, and tim, you’ll have no choice but to sing along and will likely find those familiar melodies of the greatest band in history lingering in your head throughout the weekend. what better way to spend a friday sunset?
this just in: the fab faux will be welcoming guest drummer alan goodman - one of san diego’s finest ringos!

7/6/10 - Lineup addition: Le Chat Lunatique from albuquerque. ...and we’ve saved one of the best for last...You’ve seen them all over ABQ, you’ve seen them at the new mexico djangofest, you’ve seen their name under Best Jazz Act for 4 years running in the Weekly alibi and on the Local IQ smart list under best band for 3 years running, you’ve seen them at brian and mariah’s wedding. And if you haven’t seen them, you will on August 15th in rowe. their music and videos speak for themselves. These guys are as much talent as will fit on our stage. check out the link below and bring your dancin’ shoes, sunday is shaping up to be something special.

We’re very excited to have felix y los gatos joining us this year! they have been making quite a name for themselves over the last two years in the santa fe/abq area. you can hear them on kbac 98.1 and kanw 89.1 in regular rotation. they have recently released their fusion sound of zydeco, new mexican rancheros, outlaw country with the improvisation of groovin’ jazz swing on their new cd “Green chile gumbo” recorded at the kitchen sink with jono manson! Find it and check out the track “hot damn” featuring the one, the only john popper!!! if you missed the throw down that was the cd release party at the cowgirl - you won’t want to miss their set at mutm. these cats are the real deal.

eric carlson & the mystery ship will be joining us again this year to kick off the saturday festivities. as one of santa fe’s most authentic interpreters of the folk/bluegrass genre and Winner of last year’s flatpick guitar competition at the santa fe bluegrass and old-time music festival eric will be picking original tunes from his latest album “a ship in the sky” as well as some classic favorites. with his trio - josh martin: bass and hilary schacht: fiddle - this set promises to start us off right. http://www.myspace.com/theshipinthesky

miranda scott - vocals
andrew tumason - piano/vocals/nylon strings

nathaniel mahlberg - violin
http://www.myspace.com/evarusnik
Welcome to Bohemia is the brain child of ron “dadou” romanovsky and a personal favorite of our delightful host, “the happy hippie” ms. judy henry. “wtb” includes violinist hilary schacht, bassist john boucher, and percussionist phil scollard. together they take you on a musical journey from the subways of paris to the streets of moscow, stopping along the way at a jewish wedding, an italian opera or even a gypsy circus with a repertoire that is always melodic and often danceable. they will be treating us to 30 minutes of ron’s original tunes during a sunday set on the side stage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fr2sQ_DdOxA
We got grub...
in addition to the community kitchen, Food Vendor The Nile Cafe has agreed to to come to the festival this year to feed our hungry festival-ized bodies for the weekend. They will have plenty of meat and vegetarian options. visit them at 559 w. cordova rd. in santa fe for a taste.

6/2/10 - this year we will be introducing the side stage to the mix. we decided that with so many talented musicians in the santa fe area there’s no sense in having a lull in the music while the bands set up. so there will be constant live music this year to satisfy your cravings.
Lineup additions: josh martin, will be doing a rare “looper” set on the side stage for us on saturday. josh will be fresh off seeing the phishes in telluride (how’d he get tickets?!?) and will have the creativity oozing from his pours (we hope thats all). never know what will come out of this set. one time only - not to be missed.
shamus alley, will be extremely well dressed and taking a short break from his weekend kitchen duty to COOK you up a taSTY mix from his bag of original tunes. he may even be debuting his band...stay tuned.
chris hazewski - better known as johnny blossom...a great singer and a ripping guitar player. coming to us from san diego, chris will be singing us some of his (and probably your) favorite tunes from the side stage. there will most certainly be some guest appearances in store as well.
unfortunately skirt^alert will not be joining us due to reasons beyond our control. @(*#&$^

5/24/10 - Lineup addition: nathan moore!!! coming to us all the way from the shenandoah valley and we’re super excited! if you’ve seen him you remember, if you don’t know him you should - he’s one of the best song writers on the scene and he’s coming to rowe! and he will be doing an intimate sit down set for us for the saturday sunset. you won’t want to miss that. check out the website: http://www.nathanmoore.org/
